Burning need for charcoal hits Cameroon’s forests

Cameroonians are burning increasing amounts of charcoal for cooking and heating as the country’s electricity and gas supplies fail to keep pace with demand, raising concerns among environmentalists about growing deforestation and carbon emissions in the country.

Internship Opportunity

The Humane Society International – Wildlife Department seeks an intern to work in our Gaithersburg, Md. office for the 2011 summer and/or fall semesters. Intern will participate in development of educational wildlife protection materials in the French language, in cooperation with governments in Francophone Africa. Interns will also conduct internet research and prepare reports. This internship will provide opportunities to learn about international treaties, wildlife policy and animal welfare. Approximately 20-25 hours per week. Must be a native (or highly fluent) French speaker with excellent communication skills. Note: This position is unpaid but a stipend may be available.
