Steve embraced life and loved people and animals. His support and kindness were always available for those he loved. Steve had a playful side and an infectious laugh. He loved telling a story, like the time he improvised a moto helmet in the Maroua market from a dishpan and a cloth so he could take a moto taxi within Peace Corps policy. He loved Peace Corps and working with volunteers, he called it his privilege. I will remember him as a dear friend. Through multiple moves and frequent job changes our friendship was a constant in my life for 22 years. I love him and will miss him forever.

Steve was the most gracious person I have ever known. We kept in touch for about 10 years, after PC was kicked out of Burkina Faso. My husband and I met him for lunch in DC, and had a great time. I mailed him 12 rolls of bathroom tissue when he was in Moscow, at his request. That is a happy memory. When he was in college, he was in a play with Kathleen Turner, and he got to to kiss her. How funny! I am sorry to know he is gone. I was volunteer leader my 2nd year, and he treated me with the warmth and care he showed everyone.

Steve was my friend since we were sophomores in high school. He was a true heart, a citizen of the world, a brother to everyone he met. The laughter and love that flowed so easily from his eyes enriched us all. He was a Pilgrim Soul and his Journey was deep and true. He leaves the earth and his friends too soon, too soon.

"On one star I shall be living, on one star I shall be laughing. And for you it will be as if all the stars in the sky are laughing." from The Little Prince
